A HIGHLY UNUSUAL METAL RACE TIMING INSRUMENT; MADE FOR FERRARI SIGNED HANHART,SCHWENNINGEN A.N., FERRARI DUO-STOP MODEL, CIRCA 1960 Both with jewelled keyless lever movements, the first a split seconds chronograph, silvered matt dial with outer ring calibrated for 1/100ths of a minute and 1/5ths of a second, inner 60 minutes register,subsidiary dial indicating 10 hours register, the second with silvered matt dial with luminous dot and Arabic numerals, luminous hands, outer ring calibrated for 1/100ths of a minute, two subsidiary dials indicating 30 minutes register and constant seconds, all set in the rectangular-shaped cast metal screwed outer case, the various functions operated through the crowns and buttons to the top, case and dials signed, 131mm wide.

Hanhart was a German manufacturer of watches and timers, known specifically for producing high quality pilot`s watches for the german military.

In the late 1950`s / early 1960`s, Hanhard produced a distinctive line of timers for the Ferrari factory racing team, known as the Duostop timers. Each model of the Duostops consisted of a combination of two timers, fitted into a metal case. The timers could be used as a handheld timers, worn on a neck-strap or mounted on the dashboard of the car. The Duostops combined a clever design, some unique engineering and a superb quality of construction, all to provide a useful timing device for the Ferrari racing team.

The Duostops appear to be unique among vintage rally timers in several respects. They were manufactured for Ferrari and represent an early instance of co-branding a product for a motorsport team. (Remmember that in the early 1960`s, Grand Prix racing teams were not lending their names to consumer products.)
